DRY LAB
Three areas of information which will produce improvement in your healthcare results:
1. Bone Marrow Slide Preparation
Getting the bone marrow is the easy part... as easy as placing an intramedullary pin. The secret
to getting good bone marrow cytology reports is in the preparation of the slides.
In this dry lab,
attendees will have the opportunity to make their own bone marrow slides, and then dry and stain
them prior to confirming adequate sampling by microscopic exam. If you get plenty of spicules on
the slide, and smear and dry them properly, you should get the answers you need.
2. Canine and Feline Blood Typing
For those of you who don't do feline transfusions, come to our seminar... you may
reconsider. Feline blood transfusions are a necessary tool for the general practice, and those
who choose not to do them probably don't really understand how easy they are to do.
Preparing canine and feline transfusion products (plasma and whole blood) in-house can be done
at a significantly more affordable price point for your clients, than ordering products from an
animal blood bank. Your in-house blood donor program should include blood typing for all donors,
all feline recipients, and canine recipients who receive more than one transfusion.
Note: Bring blood samples (EDTA blood) from your canine and feline blood donors to have them blood
typed. Do you know which blood types are acceptable for donor cats and dogs?
3. Performing the major Cross-Match
Learn to perform this quickly and effectively in your clinic, with a kit. This test is not
needed often, but is important and easy to do for canines recieving more than one transfusion.
