Keynote Speaker:
Wendy Blount, DVM
Dr. Blount is a companion animal (dogs and cats only) veterinarian,
Texas A&M Residency trained in Small Animal Internal Medicine. In addition to her Internal Medicine referral
practice, Dr. Blount conducts Continuing Education Seminars for small animal veterinarians, veterinary
technicians and animal control officers. As well, she teaches an undergraduate college course on "Medicine and
Behavior in the Animal Sheltering Environment" for Duquesne University. She has also served as Medical
Director & Surgeon for SpayNeuterNac and O'Malley PET (Preventing Euthanasia Together).
Dr. Blount has received several prestigious awards including the 2012 Texas Veterinary Medical
Association "Companion Animal Practitioner of the Year" for outstanding contributions to veterinary
medicine, the 2011 "Bilderback Award" for support of the animal sheltering community and the 2004
"TAVP Clinical Referral and Consultation Award" which recognizes contributions that are made by
outstanding veterinary practitioners.
In vet school and her early days of practice, Dr. Blount developed outstanding UltraSound skills. She
further honed these skills during her Texas A&M Residency under the guidance of some of the best sonographers
in the world. Over the years, she has now become well known for her UltraSound expertise and a veteran
of literally thousands of successful UltraSound exams.
Guest Speaker: Scott Huggins, DVM,
MBA
Scott Huggins, DVM, MBA earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with Honors from the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree
from the North Carolina State University, College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Huggins worked in private practice for many years in small animal clinics in North Carolina,
Utah and Nevada before coming back east to work for Novartis Animal Health as a technical services
veterinarian based out of Charlotte.
Dr. Huggins then moved to the Novartis home office in Greensboro, NC and served as the Manager of
Marketing Operations. Dr. Huggins returned to school to complete an MBA at the Bryan School of
Business and Economics at UNC-Greensboro where he was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the
international honor society for business students.
While completing his MBA, Dr. Huggins taught college-level courses in Anatomy and Physiology as well as high school biology, chemistry, physics,
and earth science. Dr. Huggins is an AAVSB RACE approved presenter and is an engaging and informative
speaker. Dr. Huggins is currently the Manager of Technical Services for Nutramax Laboratories Veterinary
Sciences, Inc. located just outside of Charlotte in Lancaster, SC.
