Office Hours
Clinic Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 6:00pm. Dr. Blount sees patients by appointment only, which can be made by calling the office at 936-569-8726. Internal Medicine referral appointments are usually seen on Wednesdays, between 9 am and 12 noon. Afternoons are reserved for diagnostic procedures, patient care, and client communications. Please speak with your regular veterinarian prior to making an appointment with Dr. Blount. This is very important, as she will need to get your pet's records prior to your appointment, may need to speak with your regular vet before the appointment, and will need to communicate with your vet regularly about findings, and recommended treatments and follow-up. Health care is always most successful when all docotrs contributing to the Health Care Team communicate with each other openly and as completely as possible.
The First Appointment
Be sure to set aside ample time for your first appointment. It will take about 15 minutes to set up your patient record. Because Dr. Blount sees referral appointments for problems which are often complicated, the appointment itself will take at least an hour the first time. During the first appointment, Dr. Blount will examine your pet and ask LOTS of questions about you and your pet, and any health problems you are dealing with. A careful history and examination are crucial to creating a good plan to get to the bottom of the problems, then proceed with finding solutions. Once the initial visit is finished, Dr. Blount will make recommendations for further testing. Many times, several hours are needed to complete testing before the patient is ready to go home. It isn't necessary for owners to stay at the clinic while testing is being completed, but you are always welcome.
Re-Check Appointments
Re-check appointments are often much shorter than the initial visit. If you wish to drop off your pet in the morning and pick them up at the end of the day, this is fine for rechecks, but is strongly discouraged for initial visits. Any time that a pet is dropped off, we require a phone number that can be used to reach you in case we need more information, or have progress reports for you.
Questions??? Don't Hesitate to Ask!!
If your pet has a problem that we commonly deal with, we might be able to give you information when you make the appointment about how much time we will need with your pet, or what expenses you can expect to incur. In any case, we will review our recommendations, give you an estimate if desired, and will always seek your input and permission prior to performing any diagnostics or treatments.
